Why Choose Puppy Paws?

Why Choose Puppy Classes with Jo & Becky?

Bringing home a puppy is exciting, but it can also feel a little overwhelming.

One minute you have this adorable bundle of fluff asleep on your lap, and the next you’re wondering why they’re biting your ankles, ignoring their name, pulling on the lead or suddenly barking at absolutely nothing!

That’s where good puppy training can make all the difference.

Our Puppy Paws classes with Jo & Becky are designed to give you and your puppy the skills, confidence and understanding you need to enjoy those important early months together.

We train the puppy — and the person!

Puppy training isn't just about teaching your puppy to sit.

It's about helping you understand why your puppy behaves the way they do and showing you what you can do to help them make good choices.

Jo and Becky will guide you through practical exercises that you can continue at home, helping you build a stronger relationship with your puppy and making training part of everyday life.

You'll learn how to communicate clearly with your puppy, reward the behaviours you want and manage those moments when your puppy isn't quite getting it right.

It's about real-life skills

We don't want your puppy to be brilliant at sitting in a training hall but have no idea what to do when they get home!

Our classes focus on useful skills that you'll need every day.

Depending on the week, we may work on:

  • Name recognition and getting your puppy's attention
  • Focus and engagement
  • Marker training and reward timing
  • Sit, down and stand
  • Recall
  • Loose-lead walking
  • Calmness and settling
  • Life skills
  • Confidence around new experiences
  • Appropriate interaction with people and other dogs
  • Preparing your puppy for the real world

The aim is to help you raise a puppy who can become a confident, well-mannered and enjoyable adult dog.

Two trainers, different experience, one goal

One of the great things about Puppy Paws is that you have two trainers working with you.

Jo and Becky come from different training backgrounds, which means you benefit from their combined experience and perspectives.

Our classes focus on kind, practical and positive training methods to help dogs learn through clear communication, positive reinforcement and rewarding the behaviours you want to see more of.

We focus on building confidence, good communication and practical skills for everyday life.

Having two trainers also means we can give you more individual guidance during the class and help you understand how to adapt an exercise for you and your puppy.

Because, let's face it — people and puppies don't all come with the same personality!

Puppies learn differently

Some puppies are confident and enthusiastic.

Some are cautious.

Some are easily distracted.

And some seem to believe that the entire class has been organised purely for their entertainment!

That's completely normal.

Our classes aren't about expecting every puppy to behave perfectly. They're about helping puppies learn at their own pace while teaching owners how to support them.

We want you to leave each class knowing what you've been practicing, why it matters and how you can continue it at home.

Puppy training doesn't stop at the classroom door

One of the most important things you can give your puppy is a good start in the real world.

A puppy needs to learn that life isn't just about sitting for a treat.

They need to experience different environments, sounds, people, dogs, surfaces and situations — gradually and positively.

That's why we encourage you to take the skills from class and practice them in everyday situations.

Your puppy's training might happen:

In the kitchen.
On the pavement.
In the garden.
At the park.
At the vets.
When visitors arrive.
Or while you're simply enjoying a quiet cup of coffee at home!

Those everyday moments are opportunities to build good habits.

Because puppyhood goes by quickly

Those first few months can sometimes feel exhausting.

The toilet training.

The chewing.

The biting.

The zoomies.

The sleepless nights.

The "what have I done?" moments!

But they also pass incredibly quickly.

Investing in training early can help you avoid many common problems becoming established habits — while giving you the tools to enjoy your puppy rather than constantly worrying about what they're doing next.

You're not expected to know everything

There is so much conflicting advice about puppies.

One person tells you to do one thing.

Someone online tells you the complete opposite.

Then your neighbour has a story about what worked for their dog 20 years ago!

It can be confusing.

Our aim is to give you clear, practical guidance without making you feel judged.

If something isn't working, that's exactly the sort of thing we want you to talk to us about.

Training isn't about being a perfect puppy owner.

It's about learning, adapting and finding what works for you and your dog.
